Route of the Volcanoes

Start your Central American adventure in Antigua, Guatemala, a hispanic colonial town dramatically ringed by volcanoes. Spend a few days enjoying the many activities available in the area before transferring across the border into El Salvador. First stop is Ataco, known for its colourful street murals and artisan workshops. Visit one of the region’s most exciting ancient Maya sites – Joya de Cerén – and mingle with the Maya’s modern-day counterparts in the towns strung out along El Salvador’s ‘Ruta de las Flores’. Against a backdrop of its magnificent volcanoes, leave El Salvador by boat across the Fonseca Gulf and arrive in Nicaragua. Stay in the university town of León before travelling to Granada, Nicaragua’s most famous colonial city, visiting the Masaya region en route. End your holiday with a beach break in San Juan del Sur or on Nicaragua’s Caribbean Corn Islands.
